DI Maria to Sit Out PSG’s First Leg Match With Barcelona

Argentinian international, Angel Di Maria will sit out the first leg , Round of 16 Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League  at Barcelona, coach Mauricio Pochettino said.

Di Maria had earlier suffered a thigh injury during the 2-0 Ligue 1 win against Marseille last Sunday  and “he will not be at the Camp Nou” for the game on February 16, Pochettino said.

“Angel is an important player for us but we have a big squad with players who can win matches for us,” the coach added.

Champions League: Athletico to Host Chelsea in Budapest

Lagos – Owing to the rampage of Coronavirus and the restrictions placed in Spain , Atletico Madrid’s home match against
Chelsea in the Champions League last-16 has now been moved from Spain to Bucharest.

 

This was sourced from news in Chelsea’s website which stated that the date of the match, February 23, and
the kick-off time (2000 GMT) would remain the same.

The second leg is scheduled to take place at Stamford Bridge in London on March 17.

It is very likely that owing to the presence of new strains, found particularly in the United Kingdom, the host country may have been wary of allowing the English side into the country for the first leg.

Nigerian Athlete, Blessing Okagbare Enters Guinness Book Of Records

Lagos- Nigerian Athlete Blessing Okagbare has today made it into the Guinness Book Of Records for making the most appearances in the IAAF’s Diamond League Meetings.

The certificate reads: “The most appearances in Diamond League meetings by an athlete is 67 and was achieved by Blessing Okagbare (Nigeria) between 3 July 2010 and 31 August 2018”. The certificate was branded ‘OFFICIALLY AMAZING.’

 

Okagbare, had  last weekend set two new personal indoor records at the Doyle Sports Management Meeting.

 

An Olympic silver medalist, Okagbare had at the age 19 had  at the 2008 Games held in Beijing, notched second position as an Olympic debutant.

 

She  also went on to win a World Championships Silver, and is the current African Record holder in the 200m and in the 4x200m with the Nigerian delegation.

 

She is seeking a fourth Olympic Games participation with the Nigerian team in Tokyo in this coming July.

Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury Fight May Hold Next Year April

Britain’s sensational boxer and current IBF, WBO and WBA champion, Anthony Joshua may get down with Tyson Fury  in April in what many have called the biggest fight in the history of boxing.

 

Joshua, who hails from Nigeria but is a citizen of the United Kingdom had just beaten Kubrat Pulev and is most likely to take on Fury sometime next year in a unification bout.

 

Joshua had told Sky Sports when asked about a possible match with Fury that it was about the legacy and the belt and not the opponent.

 

“I started this game in 2013. I’ve been chasing all the belts. I’ve been dealing with mandatories, of course I want the challenge. It’s not about the opponent, it’s about the legacy and the belt.

 

“Whoever has got the belt, I would love to compete with them. If that is Tyson Fury, let it be Tyson Fury. It’s no big deal.

 

“It’s one fight at a time, picking them off one by one. That’s all it’s about for me. I’ve got to stay focused.”

 

Fury, the current WBC champion had taken the challenge to twitter , calling Joshua out and promising that he would knock him out in three rounds.

 

“I want the fight. I want the fight next. I will knock him out inside three rounds,” he said in a video posted to Twitter.
